It was the first of three ships of the White Star Line to sail with Britannic name.Britannic was a single-screw passenger equipped with sails built for the White Star Line's North Atlantic run.
It was initially to be called, but, just prior to her launch, her name was changed to Britannic. Together with her sister, Britannic sailed for nearly thirty years, primarily carrying immigrant passengers on the highly trafficked to route. In 1876 it received the, both westbound and eastbound, by averaging almost 16 knots (30 km/h). Contents.Accommodations The Britannic and her sister Germanic were both built to carry a total of 1,720 passengers in two classes when fully booked, 220 Saloon Class Passengers (Title of First Class at that time) and 1,500 Steerage Passengers. As the ships were virtually larger versions of the 'Oceanic' class ships built in the previous years, their accommodations were very similar, with some variances to give each ship its own character. Britannic 's saloon accommodations, consisting of a large, spacious dining saloon and a large number of two- and four-berth cabins were located in the centre of the ship on the main deck, being the upper of the two decks enclosed within the hull above the waterline. The steerage accommodations were located on the two lower decks and consisted of large dormitory-style cabins capable of sleeping up to 20 passengers lined against the hull, with an open space running along the centre line of the ship where passengers could congregate.
These accommodations were divided into two main sections at either end of the ship, berths for single men in the bow and berths for single women, married couples and families in the stern.Engineering Although Britannic was rigged as a four masted, she was the first White Star ship to sport two. She was powered by inverted, supplied by Messrs of. Britannic 's hull was subdivided into eight by nine watertight. Drawing of Britannic 's engines. As built the Britannic incorporated a novel system which allowed the single to be raised and lowered while still connected to its shaft and without stopping the engine. This was achieved with a flexible coupling and an elongated aperture in the ship's sternpost. This feature was an attempt to overcome the disadvantage of long-hulled single-screw liners, which pitched in heavy seas.
In bad weather the stern could rise enough to lift the propeller partially out of the water, reducing thrust and causing unpleasant vibration. The Britannic's adjustable propeller was angled below the horizontal when in the lowest position, to ensure the entire propeller remained submerged. In shallow water the shaft could be raised to the horizontal or slightly upwards to reduce the ship's draught and prevent a blade striking the seabed. With the propeller fully raised the entire propeller hub and one blade could be accessed without placing the ship in —it was hoped this would reduce the cost and time required to change any broken propeller blades. The shaft was raised and lowered by a small auxiliar steam engine in the ship's stern, operating rods connected to a bearing collar on the propeller shaft via a reduction gear.
The system proved reliable and effective at its purpose of keeping the propeller submerged in heavy weather but when set at certain angles the flexible coupling caused heavy vibration and the equipment required significantly more maintenance than a standard drive system. It also reduced the efficiency of the propeller in calm weather unless the angle was adjusted to be perfectly parallel to the line of the hull, making Britannic slower than her conventionally-built sistership, the Germanic. In 1875, after less than a year in service, Britannic was taken out of service to be refitted with the same propeller arrangement as her sister - this work required not only removing the propeller mechanism and installing a new drive shaft but also fitting a new bed for the main engine to change its alignment. Once the ship was back in service her performance matched that of the Germanic, allowing the ship to make its own attempts at the. Career On 25 June 1874 she made her maiden voyage, from Liverpool to New York.
In the autumn of 1876, she captured the westbound Blue Riband and a month later set the eastbound record as well, becoming the only White Star ship ever to hold both records simultaneously. She lost the westbound record to her sister, Germanic, in April 1877 and the eastbound one to the Guion Line's in July 1879.On 4 July 1881 Britannic ran aground in fog at, and remained stuck for two days. All the passengers were safely landed at.
Britannic sprang a leak in her engine room after being re-floated and was beached at. She had to be patched up and pumped before returning to Liverpool for repairs. SS Celtic collision On 19 May 1887, at about 5:25pm, the White Star liner collided with Britannic in thick fog about 350 miles (560 km) east of. Celtic, with 870 passengers, had been steaming westbound for, while Britannic, carrying 450 passengers, was on the second day of her eastward journey to. The two ships collided at almost right angles, with Celtic burying her prow 10 feet (3 m) in the aft port side of Britannic. Celtic rebounded and hit two more times, before sliding past behind Britannic.Six passengers were killed outright on board Britannic and another six were later found to be missing, having been washed overboard.
There were no deaths on board Celtic. Both ships were badly damaged, but Britannic more so, having a large hole below her waterline. Fearing that she would founder, the passengers on board began to panic and rushed the. Britannic's captain, Hugh Hamilton Perry, pistol in hand, was able to restore some semblance of order, and the boats were filled with women and children, although a few men forced their way on board. After the lifeboats had launched, it was realized that Britannic would be able to stay afloat, and the lifeboats within hailing distance were recalled. The rest made their way over to Celtic.
The two ships remained together through the night and the next morning were joined by the Wilson Line's Marengo and British Queen of the, and the four slowly made their way into. Britannic was repaired at New York and was out of service for nearly a month.Two-and-a-half-year-old was on board the Britannic at the time of the collision, with her father Elliott, mother Anna and aunt Tissie. Eleanor was lowered into a lifeboat, screaming and protesting. She and her parents were taken to the Celtic and eventually returned to New York. Eleanor raised a huge protest at the prospect of going back on board a ship to continue the family's trip to Europe. Her parents went on to Europe, leaving the little girl with a maternal aunt. Eleanor had a lifelong fear of water and ships as a result of this incident.
Czarowitz collision On 2 January 1890, Britannic collided with Czarowitz—a British bound from, to, England, with a cargo of —in the Crosby Channel as Czarowitz was about to enter the. Czarowitz sank.
Later career Britannic continued on the Liverpool–New York run. On one journey in August 1891, the 17-year-old ship recorded her fastest-ever crossing from New York to, making the journey in 7 days, 6 hours, and 52 min.In August Britannic was requisitioned by the and converted for use as a to transport soldiers to the in, becoming known as HMT (Hired Military Transport) #62. During this period, under the command of, Britannic transported 37,000 troops to and from the conflict over three years.
In November 1900 Britannic sailed to Australia with a Guard of Honour to represent Great Britain at the inauguration of the. She took part in the fleet review at to mark the occasion.
Britannic laid up, just before being scrapped. Demise Following the end of the war in October 1902, Britannic was released from government service and returned to White Star who sent her to her builders in Belfast for a survey, with the intention that she might be refurbished and modernised for further use. The builders report in 1903 concluded that it would not be cost effective to bring the 29 year old ship up to modern standards, instead, she was sold for scrap for £11,500, and on 11 August 1903 she left Belfast under tow to, where she was broken up. Virtual Sailor 7 Review Virtual Sailor 7, developed and published by Quality Simulations. The Good: Flexible game engine, good wave graphics with low system requirements, easily modified (with lots of user-made content already available), relatively low price The Not So Good: Not much default content, no explicit tutorials, small audience What say you?
A decent simulation that will appeal to boat enthusiasts: 6/8 MY POORLY WRITTEN INTRODUCTION Ah, sailing. The wind in your hair, the salt in your veins, the iceberg off starboard: it’s a wonderful activity for the entire family!
While there have been plenty of flight simulators, train simulators, and car simulators, there haven't been very many boat simulators, although this is another area ripe for a quality simulation. Speaking of which, Quality Simulations serves up their seventh iteration of their Virtual Sailor series, coincidentally titled Virtual Sailor 7. While not displaying the notoriety or publicity of other simulations, the game hopes to deliver a solid replication of boating and sailing.
GRAPHICS AND SOUND Unlike competing simulations, Virtual Sailor 7 features buttery-smooth graphics that also look fairly decent. Since most of the simulation takes place at sea, you would expect the waves to be realistic, and they are. Virtual Sailor 7 includes a great engine that produces realistic (if not repetitive) waves in the ocean, from small 2-foot waves to imposing 55-foot monsters. The ship models are also well done, looking quite like real seafaring vessels. The coastal areas are generally bland for a lot of the time, although some basic textures representing docks and cities may be present in more developed areas. The skies and weather effects are also well done and quite convincing, creating an environment that is quite competitive with top-of-the-line simulations. Best of all, you can crank up the settings to the maximum; a system that ran medium settings in Flight Simulator X at 12 frames per seconds can display Virtual Sailor 7 at the highest settings (and a better resolution) at a consistent 30 frames per second, even with a lot of objects on the screen (and with sophisticated reflection and refraction of light in the ocean).
The developer should be commended for making a simulation that looks good but also runs well on most people’s computers. The sound is as good as it’s going to be for a boat simulation: the wind howls and the boats make sound. Virtual Sailor 7 offers competitive graphics and sound that can be displayed on much older systems. The game may not have a high level of detail, but you’ll be staring at the water for most of the time, so as long as the boats and ocean look good (which they do), you’re in fine shape. Virtual Sailor 7 lets you grab a boat, place it in the water, and sail around a bit. The game includes a small number of missions (called “cruises”) that usually involve sailing to a specific location.
Virtual Sailor Mods
The default content is not very extensive: just one area to sail in and a handful of boats. However, there is already lots of downloadable custom content created by users for previous versions of the game that is still compatible with Virtual Sailor 7; these extra boats and scenery files expand the range of the game enormously and shows that Virtual Sailor 7 is pretty easy to edit. You can set the weather of your cruise using a number of pre-sets or defining wind speed, wave height, visibility, and cloud cover yourself. You cannot download real-time weather conditions from the Internet, although creating the conditions yourself is part of the fun. In addition, you can manually change the weather during the simulation, instantly watching your alterations; watching the ocean swell from 4-foot to 25-foot waves in one second is pretty entertaining. The game also allows for a range of realism options, such as allowing for capsizing and sinking.
In addition, you have the option of fixing your view to the horizon, which takes all of the vomit-inducing fun out of boating. The game is pretty easy to control, as the controls can be as simple as steering and setting the engine speed.
Virtual Sailor 7 can automatically adjust your sails for maximum speed, or you can adjust all of the rigging yourself. Most of the objects in the game can be directly clicked in addition to using the keyboard commands.
Virtual Sailor 7 does not include a tutorial to teach you how to sail, so aspiring seamen should consult an outside source. The game does feature all of the modern (and not-so-modern) tools used in marine operations: telescopes, compasses, sextants, maps, radar, echo sounders, and GPS are all included. Virtual Sailor 7 also supports the use of weapons, which allows for the development of military vessels for use in the game. There are a number of different activities you can undertake in the game, such as towing other boats, blowing up boats, traveling to a distant isle using waypoints, or looking at the marine lif. With the Nerve Gear, a VR Helmet that stimulates the user's five senses via their brain, players can experience and control their in-game characters with their minds. But an unexpected event occurs on November 6, 2022 when Akihiko Kayaba, the creator of SAO, prevents the players from logging out. Akihiko issues them a challenge; if they wish to be free and log out of the game, they must reach the 100th floor of the game's tower and defeat the final boss. However, if their avatars die in the game, so will their bodies in the real world. As the game's 10,000 players try to accept their new deadly predicament, Kirito, a skilled player who tested the beta version of the game, is determined to reach the 100th floor and attain freedom. As he befriends other players along the way, including Asuna, who becomes his partner and love interest, Kirito faces many obstacles and eventually discovers the true purpose of SAO. Date June 6 1944 Names of thew battle D-Day or Operation Overlord The term 'D-Day' has been used for many different operations, but it is now generally only used to refer to the Allied landings in Normandy on 6 June 1944. Location Coast of Normandy, France Nationalities of the people on the Allies side were British, American, Canadian, Australians and New Zealanders, French, Belgians, Norwegians, Poles and Czechs along with the Dutch. Defending the Coast, The Germans of course. Causalities The Allied casualties figures for D-Day have generally been estimated at 10,000, including 2500 dead.
Broken down by nationality, the usual D-Day casualty figures are approximately 2700 British, 946 Canadians, and 6603 Americans. However recent painstaking research by the US National D-Day Memorial Foundation has achieved a more accurate - and much higher - figure for the Allied personnel who were killed on D-Day. They have recorded the names of individual Allied personnel killed on 6 June 1944 in Operation Overlord, and so far they have verified 2499 American D-Day fatalities and 1915 from the other Allied nations, a total of 4414 dead (much higher than the traditional figure of 2500 dead). Further research may mean that these numbers will increase slightly in future. The details of this research will in due course be available on the Foundation's website at www.dday.org. This new research means that the casualty figures given for individual units in the next few paragraphs are no doubt inaccurate, and hopefully more accurate figures will one day be calculated. Casualties on the British beaches were roughly 1000 on Gold Beach and the same number on Sword Beach.
The remainder of the British losses were amongst the airborne troops: some 600 were killed or wounded, and 600 more were missing; 100 glider pilots also became casualties. The losses of 3rd Canadian Division at Juno Beach have been given as 340 killed, 574 wounded and 47 taken prisoner.
The breakdown of US casualties was 1465 dead, 3184 wounded, 1928 missing and 26 captured. Of the total US figure, 2499 casualties were from the US airborne troops (238 of them being deaths).
The casualties at Utah Beach were relatively light: 197, including 60 missing. However, the US 1st and 29th Divisions together suffered around 2000 casualties at Omaha Beach. The total German casualties on D-Day are not known, but are estimated as being between 4000 and 9000 men. Naval losses for June 1944 included 24 warships and 35 merchantmen or auxiliaries sunk, and a further 120 vessels damaged. Over 425,000 Allied and German troops were killed, wounded or went missing during the Battle of Normandy. This figure includes over 209,000 Allied casualties, with nearly 37,000 dead amongst the ground forces and a further 16,714 deaths amongst the Allied air forces.
Of the Allied casualties, 83,045 were from 21st Army Group (British, Canadian and Polish ground forces), 125,847 from the US ground forces. The losses of the German forces during the Battle of Normandy can only be estimated. Roughly 200,000 German troops were killed or wounded. The Allies also captured 200,000 prisoners of war (not included in the 425,000 total, above). During the fighting around the Falaise Pocket (August 1944) alone, the Germans suffered losses of around 90,000, including prisoners. Today, twenty-seven war cemeteries hold the remains of over 110,000 dead from both sides: 77,866 German, 9386 American, 17,769 British, 5002 Canadian and 650 Poles. Between 15,000 and 20,000 French civilians were killed, mainly as a result of Allied bombing.

Now, IIf you use raytraced reflections/refractions, it's possible that a certain reflective object takes up a bigger part of the image. Another completely different possibility that because of memory limitations (due because of other programs, memory leaks, etc.) more virtual memory (i.e. Hard-drive) is used, which is about 100 times slower than RAM. The easiest check would be to stop the rendering (I hope you're rendering to images and not to a video file), reboot the computer and continue from the last frame.
17 Ways Government Wastes Your Money 1.Exporting Elmo: The U.S. Agency for International DevelopmentOur government has been wasting our money for years. What the people need to do now is listen to what our politicians are promising and figure out where the money is going to come from. Taxes are not the answer wasteful spending is the problem. We are a Country in financial trouble, near bankruptcy so additional spending must stop. The cold hard facts are if we continue to spend like drunken sailors we will be bankrupt and everyone of us lose. Like it or not concessions must be made and some services will have to suffer.
Our wants must give way to common sense and realize we can not Spend our way out of this mess. Each of us regardless of party must take a small lump now or have nothing later. Our Greed plays right into the hands of our political Arena causing both side to promise the impossable.

Examples: - 1)Worst 2ed season to an anime you liked:.BokusatsuKarin (Chibi Vampire): For getting so much weaker towards the end. Chrono Crusade: For having sub-par animation (especially for Gonzo) and playing to everything except its strengths.
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni: For having a second season that was so much more tame than the first one. Serial Experiments Lain: For wasting the intelligent parts on the annoying parts. Chobits: For waiting over half the show to get to the good stuff.

You’re trapped in the elevator for five hours with two of your favorite anime characters. How are you going to pass the time? (This question just came off the top of my head):P1. You’re trapped in the elevator for five hours with two of your favorite anime characters.
How are you going to pass the time? (This question just came off the top of my head):P Chat, ask questions about their life, tell jokes or something (although L isn't the jokey type:p, though Schrodinger might be:D) 2. In your opinion, what is the dumbest power a character could have?
I remember watching I think the 3rd X-Men movie, and there is this one girl, and her 'mutant' power is to be able to count everything in the room straight away, I mean how stupid is that? What is perhaps the most disgusting anime you’ve watched?
Haven't exactly come across any yet, but some moments in Hetalia what some of the characters say and do makes me think it's lucky my parents never watch my Hetalia DVD's. (Lthough it is one of my favourite animes!) 4.
You and your favorite anime character fight in an arena. The character is stripped of his/her most important power. Who will be the victor? I think Alucard could still kill me in a second:3 5. What is one thing you DON’T like about anime? I don't like watching things with too much Hentai/Yaoi/ Yuri.
I mean if a character is gay, I don't have a problem with it, but it seems to overloaded to me, and I can't stand the Yaoi fangirls 6. Do you like vampires?? Not the sparkly kind, the original kind. Yep, gotta love vampires:) 7. Do you like cats??I think they look cute, but I don't like them.

Harleen Quinzel AKA Harley Quinn from Batman:3 14. Do you have a good joke? I’m bored and in great need of a good laugh. D: Hmm let me see. (ok This is a kinda weird one) Every year at the state fair Paul entered the lottery for the brand new truck and lost. This year, he told his friend David, he wasn’t going to bother and enter.
“What kind of attitude is that?” David asked. He leaned closer and whispered, “What you need, pal, is faith. Look around and see if the good Lord sends you a message.” Strolling around the fair, Paul grew more and more despondent as the drawing neared. Nothing struck him, no divine inspiration, no sign from God. Finally, while he was passing old Mrs. Kelleher’s pie stand, he glanced over and saw the woman bending down.
She wasn’t wearing any panties, and suddenly her bottom began to glow. All of a sudden, a finger of flame came from the skies and without her even knowing it, used her bottom as a notepad. The fiery finger etched a seven on each cheek. Thanking God, Paul rushed to the raffle booth and played the number 77. A few minutes later, the drawing was held.
And once again, Paul lost. The winning number was 707. (courtesy of my friend) 15.
