Avid just added support for Windows Audio Devices starting with Protools 12 and Windows 10. At the school where I teach, we have Pro Tools on each machine (Apple iMac) in the lab. No hardware - unless you count a monoprice headphone splitter - so I can jump in and co-listen. They are using these machines for lessons involving editing and mixing. Though one enterprising student figured out that the jack accepts his iPhone earbuds which include the phone mic - and he was able to record a vocal sample in the lab.
